It’s basically a shortcut creamy apple pie that's way easier and more flexible than baking a full pie. It is my new last-minute party dessert appetizer for fall and Thanksgiving.

If you've been apple picking and want to use fresh apples, I've actually made this by chopping up fresh, peeled apples and cooking them in a skillet with butter and brown sugar.

But I just love the convenience of using canned apple pie filling.

There’s also something sold in the South called canned fried cinnamon apples, usually sold right next to the pie filling. That works, too! It’s more like sautéed butter-and-cinnamon apples without the thickener.

This apple pie cream cheese dip, also called apple pie cheesecake dip, might remind you of the viral pecan pie dip served over whipped cream cheese.

This one has all the fall apple feels.

Don’t be afraid to get creative on the dippers. You can mix and match all kinds of scoopers like cinnamon sugar pita chips, homemade cinnamon sugar tortilla chips, apple-flavored mini rice cakes, vanilla wafers and sweet potato chips.

If you’re hosting a game day or fall kids party, you can serve this cream cheese apple pie dip with Fruity Pebbles Crispy Treats, mini Oreos, and my Mini S'Mores Pies.

You can also add Little Debbie Christmas tree dip and Apple Cranberry Jalapeno Salsa if you're making it for a fun Christmas or holiday spread.

    Shortcuts

    • Use canned pie filling – No need to peel, chop, and cook apples from scratch. Since canned filling is shelf-stable, you can stock up ahead of the holidays.
    • Cut apples right in the can – Use kitchen scissors to cut the apples into small pieces to save washing a cutting board.

    Ingredients

You only need a few simple ingredients to make this easy apple pie dip recipe.

Ingredients for apple pie dip displayed on a counter, including whipping cream, brown sugar, cream cheese, and canned apple pie filling
    • Cream cheese – Let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before mixing or microwave at HIGH for 25 seconds. Cold cheese won’t blend as easily and can leave little lumps in your dip.
    • Light brown sugar – I love the tiny bit of molasses flavor that brown sugar adds to the dip, but you can also use ½ cup powdered sugar or ⅓ cup granulated sugar. For a lower sugar option, check the equivalent amounts for monk fruit, stevia and Splenda sugar substitutes.
    • Whipping cream – A handy ingredient to keep around during the holidays.
    • Canned apple pie filling – Different brands of pie filling have slightly different flavors. Some are sweeter, while others have more cinnamon.
    • Dippers – Along with cookies and crackers, try adding savory options like pretzels and lightly seasoned pita chips. Use a tray, place the cream cheese apple pie dip in the center, and arrange the treats all around it!

With the leftover apple pie filling, top pancakes, stir it into cottage cheese or yogurt or make my Air Fryer Apple Pie Bombs.

    Substitutions & Variations

    • Swap in Neufchatel cheese –  You can use a block of Neufchatel instead of regular cream cheese to save a few calories. It’s usually sold right next to cream cheese in the dairy section and is already soft, even when cold.
    • Try different canned pie fillings – This recipe is versatile enough to work with other canned pie fillings. Cherry, blueberry, and pumpkin are perfect for holiday gatherings!
    • Instead of whipping cream, ¾ cup Cool Whip can be folded into the beaten cream cheese and brown sugar mixture. The dip just might be a little thicker.

Mixing cream cheese and brown sugar in a glass bowl with an electric hand mixer
    • Beat softened cream cheese with brown sugar and whipping cream until smooth and fluffy.
    • Spread the mixture into a shallow dish, then spoon apple pie filling on top. Scroll down to the printable recipe for my easy hack to cut the apples in the filling into bite-sized pieces!

    • All done! Serve it with graham crackers, cookies, or cinnamon sugar chips for dipping.

    Pro Tip

Double the recipe for larger gatherings. Make two dishes at once and keep one chilled until the first is gone. Also, keep extra dippers on standby in airtight containers.

    How to Store

Cover it tightly with plastic wrap or transfer it to an airtight container.

It will keep well in the fridge for up to three days. Once you’re ready to enjoy it again, serve it straight from the fridge or at room temperature.
