If you're looking for party dessert ideas, just change up the color of sprinkles for any holiday or special occasion.

No matter what you call them, Oreo Bon Bons, Oreo Cookie Balls, Chocolate Mint Balls or what I like to call them- Oreo Mint Truffles, they are super easy to make and fun to eat!

I had leftover green sanding sugar from the King Cake Pancakes-which was actually left over from Christmas! Score! Triple use from one ingredient!

I'll be making these Oreo truffles with cream cheese again for the Holidays. By then, I will have stocked up on green sanding sugar from the St. Patrick's Day clearance rack! See how that works?

Why these are the best Mint Oreo Truffles

These are the best mint Oreo truffles (or Mint Oreo Balls) because you don't have to refrigerate the mixture before shaping into balls. Most of the recipes I've seen used fewer cookie to cream cheese ratio, but it was too soft to use immediately. That's a shortcut!

    Oreo Balls Ingredients

Just 4 ingredients to make this recipe for Oreo cookie balls.

    Opened package of mint Oreos.
    • Mint-flavored Oreo cookies (or other flavor if you prefer)
    • Cream cheese
    • White candy coating wafers or white chocolate chips
    • Sanding sugar or sprinkles (any color)

    How to make Oreo balls

A food processor makes quick work of this mint Oreo truffles recipe.

    • You can crush them in a zip-top plastic bag with a rolling pin, but the creme filling tends to stick to the bag and it's hard to crush them fine enough.
Soften the 4 oz of cream cheese in the microwave about 20 seconds on HIGH. Add it to the fine cookie crumbs and pulse in the food processor just until you don't see any cream cheese.

Mint Oreo Truffle Balls dough. I find it easy and quick to use a 1 tablespoon-size cookie scoop to first scoop out the mixture onto parchment paper or wax paper. It both measures the exact amount each time and forms it into a rough ball.

Pro Tip: I find I find it easy and quick to use a 1 tablespoon-size cookie scoop to first scoop out the mixture onto parchment paper or wax paper. It both measures the exact amount each time and forms it into a rough ball.

The next step is simply to finish rolling them into balls. I do refrigerate the balls at this point. This is convenient for me to make the Mint Oreo Truffle Balls ahead to this point. Then, when I have another available 30 minutes later in the day or the next day, I cover them with candy coating.
    • The next step is simply to finish rolling them into balls.

Make Ahead Tip: You can coat them with chocolate, now, or cover them with aluminum foil or plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes or up to 24 hours before coating them.

    • Chilling the shaped truffle balls at this point actually makes the candy coating harden quicker.

It also prevents the chocolate mixture from blending into the white coating, leaving you with grey streaks.

Melt white candy coating in a microwave-safe bowl at 50% power. First 1 minute, then 30 seconds at a time, stirring after each time
    • Melt white candy coating or white chocolate chips according to package directions.

Pro Tip: Melting the candy wafers or white chocolate in a 2-quart slow cooker or candy melting pot prevents you from having to constantly reheat the chocolate to make it pourable.

Hold the truffle ball in one hand on a candy holder or a fork and spoon the melted candy coating or white chocolate with the other hand. Tap the excess coating back into the bowl.
    • Hold the truffle ball in one hand on a candy dipping tool or a fork and spoon the melted candy coating or white chocolate with the other hand.
    • Tap the excess coating back into the bowl.

Be sure to add the sprinkles immediately after coating each ball.

Coated in white chocolate and topped with green sprinkles, these bite-size Oreo cookie balls are easy to make and perfect for St. Patricks Day or Christmas.

What if my chocolate hardens before I add sprinkles?

Put a little bit (tablespoon or two) of melted coating in a small zip top bag and snip the end, drizzle it across the coated truffle ball.

THEN, sprinkle with sprinkles and they stick to the drizzled chocolate. Voila!

How do I clean melted chocolate bowls?

Tip: How to clean candy coating or white chocolate from spoons and bowls that have dried. Use plastic spoons so you can microwave them and glass bowl and make it soft again. Or, heat water in a microwave safe glass and soak the utensils in the glass .

To clean chocolate or candy coating from bowls and spoons that have dried, either soak metal spoons and candy coating tools in a glass or bowl of hot water, then wipe off the softened candy coating with a paper towel.

If the bowl is microwave-save, it can be microwaved for 1 minute to soften the chocolate, then wiped off with a paper towel.

Or, a neat trick is to use plastic spoons. These can be microwaved (30 seconds) to soften the hardened candy coating, then wiped off to use again or just thrown away.

Bite Size Desserts for Parties and Holidays

Other holidays and dessert party ideas. You can easily change the color of sprinkles on top of these cream cheese Oreo truffles to match the occasion. Gold, green, and purple for Mardi Gras, red and green for Christmas, pastels for Easter, red/white/blue for Fourth of July, etc.
