Shortcuts
- Crumbling up the store-bought strawberry shortcake rolls is a lot faster than baking a cake!
- To quickly soften a brick of refrigerated cream cheese, microwave it! Remove the foil wrapper and place on a microwave safe plate. Microwave on HIGH (mine is 1200 watts) for 2 to 25 seconds.

- Little Debbie Strawberry Shortcake Rolls - Six rolls come in a 13-ounce box but I only crumbled 4 ½ cakes in the dip and used half of one for garnish. I say the leftover 1 cake roll is fair game for snacking and taste testing!
- If your strawberries are not in season and juicy, feel free to add ¼ cup powdered sugar to the cream cheese when mixing it.

- Beat the cream cheese until creamy. Crumble 4 ½ of the strawberry shortcake rolls into the bowl. Hold back the other half for garnish. The last roll can be saved for a snack another day... if it lasts that long.
- Beat the mixture on low speed just until combined.
- Gently fold in the Cool Whip.
You can also combine the cream cheese, Cool Whip and if using, sugar, together before adding the Little Debbie cakes. This is make the dip less pink. The choice is yours.
- Stir in the chopped fresh strawberries.
- Spoon the strawberry dip into a serving bowl and garnish with a strawberry and 3 slices of a shortcake roll.
- Serve immediately or let it chill in the fridge until ready to serve.
Serve with cookies, whole strawberries, chocolate-covered pretzels, or vanilla wafers.
Pro Tips
Watch out for Pepto pink! Be aware, the more you stir or mix the dip, the more the strawberry-flavored filling will turn the dip the familiar pink color.
If your strawberries are not in season and super sweet and juicy, go ahead and add ¼ cup powdered sugar when beating the cream cheese until smooth.
Substitutions & Variations
Trade "this" for "that" in this easy strawberry dip recipe.
- 3 Ingredient Strawberry Cream Cheese Dip - If you don't have (or don't want to use) Little Debbie snack cake rolls, you can still make an easy cheesecake dip with just cream cheese, Cool Whip and strawberries. Just omit the cake rolls!
- Neufchatel cheese instead of cream cheese - Neufchatel sounds fancy, but it's simply a softer, lower-fat version of cream cheese and sold right next to it in the dairy section. It also has more moisture, so it's not a good swap for baked goods.
- Graham cracker crumbs - This is an easy dessert dip for graham crackers but you can also crumble them into the dip in place of the Little Debbie cakes.
- Frozen strawberries - Thaw and drain well about ½ cup chopped frozen strawberries and stir into the cream cheese dip a the end.
- Thin strawberry dip - One way to make this dip thinner is to put everything in the food processor or beat longer in the mixer. Another way is to add or trade out the fresh strawberries with ⅓ cup of my Strawberry Freezer Jam. Thaw it first, though.
- Whipped cream- Although this is a fruit dip with Cool Whip, you can easily make it with 2 cups sweetened whipped cream instead.
You can also drizzle strawberry syrup or strawberry glaze such as Marzetti on the dip.
This strawberry shortcake dip makes a beautiful centerpiece on a dessert dip board like this one for Valentines Day. You could easily change it up for 4th of July, Mothers Day, wedding showers or any special occasion.
Helpful Information
The Little Debbie Cake website describes these sweet rolls as "Yellow Cake rolled with layers of creme and strawberry fruit-flavored filling." The first four ingredients listed on the label are sugar, corn syrup, water and enriched bleached flour.
How to store
- To Store: Store any leftover strawberry dip in the refrigerator, covered or in an air tight container up to 3 or 4 days. Stir again before serving.

Shortcut Strawberry Shortcake Dip
Equipment
Ingredients
- 1 (8-ounce) block cream cheese, softened
- 5 Little Debbie Strawberry Shortcake rolls from a 13-ounce box, divided (Six rolls come in a box. Enjoy the 6th one as a snack!)
- 1 (8-ounce) container frozen Cool Whip, thawed (or 2 cups sweetened whipped cream)
- 1 cup chopped fresh strawberries
- One whole strawberry for garnish (Optional)
Instructions
- Beat the softened cream cheese in a large bowl with an electric hand mixer until creamy.
- Unwrap and crumble 4 ½ of the strawberry shortcake rolls. SAVE the remaining half of a roll for the garnish.
- With the mixer on low speed, mix in the crumbled cake rolls JUST UNTIL BARELY COMBINED. If you want a smooth, thinner dip, go ahead and beat it on medium. If you like a few pieces of cake to show, take it slow.
- With a flexible spatula, gently fold in the Cool Whip. If you prefer a thinner dip, you can just use the mixer to blend it in. See NOTE below.
- Stir in the chopped fresh strawberries, spoon into a serving bowl and top with one strawberry sliced almost in half. Slice the remaining half of a shortcake roll into 3 slices. Place next to the strawberry on top of the dip.
- You are ready to serve! To serve later, cover and chill in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
