WANT TO SAVE THIS RECIPE?
Orange candy coating disguises fresh strawberries as carrots in the garden for a fun sweat treat for kids in spring or Easter. They are nestled in chocolate pudding and Oreo crumbs to resemble dirt in a garden.
You probably already have everything in your pantry to make these right now and fresh strawberries are super cheap right now because they are at peak season.
What's the shortcut?
- Starting with orange candy melts. You can also use orange food coloring and white chocolate.
- Microwaving the candy coating instead of using a double boiler
- Oreo baking crumbs can be purchased to avoid crushing in a food processor. Personally, I usually have at least the 10 cookies in my pantry. lol
- Make chocolate pudding using a box of instant pudding, individual size snack puddings, or a container of Kozy Shack prepared chocolate pudding in the refrigerator section next to Jello cups

- 10 Oreo cookies or other creme filled chocolate cookies (Or 1 cup chocolate cookie crumbs)
- 1 cup orange candy coating melts
- 8 medium to large fresh strawberries with green hulls still on
Instructions
- If making chocolate pudding from the box of instant pudding, make this first and chill while dipping the strawberries.
- Process chocolate cookies in a food processor to create about 1 cup of crumbs. Smashing the cookies in a zip top bag will work in a pinch but the creme filling tends to still be seen.
- Melt orange candy melts in microwave according to package directions. See note below to make your own with white chocolate chips and food coloring.Place about 3 to 4 tablespoons of the melted coating in a pastry bag or zip top bag. Snip the end of the pastry bag or corner of a zip top bag according to how thick you'd like the drizzle.
- Place a piece of wax or parchment paper on a baking sheet or the countertop. Dip the strawberries in the melted candy coating about three-fourths of the way up the strawberries and place on the wax paper. Quickly drizzle with candy coating in the bag. Let stand at least 10 minutes to firm up.
- Meanwhile, spoon chocolate pudding into paper cups or ½-cup ceramic containers. Clear punch cups will also work.
- Sprinkle cookie crumbs evenly over the top of the pudding.
- Nestle one coated strawberry in each cup of "dirt" pudding. Serve immediately or store in refrigerator overnight.
