These easy Air Fryer Fried Oreos (or any creme-filled chocolate sandwich cookie) are made with 4 pantry/fridge ingredients you probably already have! Do you love fried Oreos at festivals? Make these sweet treat desserts at home in your air fryer or oven without all the oil and messy batter in just minutes!

    Air Fryer "Fried Oreos"

One of my favorite treats at festivals are fried Oreos. I love how the crunchy chocolate cookie turns into a soft cookie in the middle of pillowy-soft and fluffy pancake batter coating. And don't forget the generous sprinkling powdered sugar to gild the lily!

I've made the fried Oreos for my kids in the past and don't get me wrong. They were yummy. But, dipping them in pancake batter was messy and dropping them in the hot oil was painful at times if you weren't careful. Not to mention having to cool down and discard all that oil afterward.

Why you should try making them in an air fryer (or oven)

    1. No oily mess! Easy clean up.
    2. They are delicious! The air fryer gives them a similar, slightly crunchy outside while keeping the chocolate cookie soft on the inside.
    3. You probably already have the staple ingredients on hand or they are easy and inexpensive to buy. (I buy crescent rolls and chocolate sandwich cookies when they are on sale.) You can freeze the cookies.
    4. Kid friendly. Even very small children will have fun dunking the cookies in the milk and pressing out the dough.
    5. Fewer calories. Not deep frying
    6. You can make them in small batches. Crescent roll dough comes in cans of just four. Even if you make 8 from a regular size can, that's still a small batch if you have a family of four.

What you need to make Air Fryer "Fried" Oreo Cookies

air fryer. stack of chocolate creme filled cookies cup of milk. sieve of powdered sugar
What you need to make Air Fryer "Fried Oreos"
    • 4 oz can of crescent roll dough = 4 servings (An 8 oz can = 8 servings)
    • 4 to 8 chocolate, creme-filled cookies such as Oreo brand. I had Aldi brand on hand
    • Milk for dunking (about 1/4 cup minimum) You'll want to save the cookie milk for drinking later!
    • 1 to 2 tablespoons powdered sugar for sprinkling

How to make fried Oreos in an air fryer

Unwrap the can of crescent rolls but DO NOT UNROLL. Cut the 4 oz can into 4 slices or cut the 8 oz can into 8 slices.

Place each slice on a work surface and press into a 3-inch circle. I actually just press them into a circle in my hands but kids may want to lay it on the surface. You can also use a rolling pin, but not necessary.

Dip the cookie quickly. The milk helps soften the cookie so the inside is soft and creamy when you bite into it.

Then, quickly dip the cookies, one at a time, because they soften fast into milk. You don't need a lot of milk but you'll want to save the "cookie milk" to drink with the "Fried Oreos" later!

Wrap the crescent roll dough around the cookie and pinch the middle together to seal.

I recommend dunking and wrapping the cookies one at a time since the cookie becomes soft so quickly after dunking.

Place the crescent roll-wrapped cookies in the air fryer tray, pinched side down. Make sure they are not touching. You can fit up to 8 in the Ninja 1550 air fryer at one time. The oven-style air fryers can fit even more.

Air fry them at 375 degrees for just 3 to 4 minutes. My air fryer preset for ROAST is 375 degrees.

air fried Oreos baked without powdered sugar

You can place them on a wire rack before sprinkling with powdered sugar, but honestly, just sprinkling them right in the air fryer basket saves a step!

How to sprinkle them with powdered sugar

Use a metal tea strainer, sieve, or wire strainer with about 1 to 2 tablespoons powdered sugar in it. Hold it over the "Fried Oreos" and gently shake the strainer back and forth while tapping it against the side of your other hand.

Shake a little or shake a lot. No judgement here: dusting or snow storm.

Air Fryer "Fried Oreos" are best eaten warm in my opinion but be careful. The cookie in the middle will be hot.

It amazes me that the festival sweet treats are completely baked and ready to eat in just 3 minutes in the air fryer.

Can I make air fryer "fried" Oreos in the oven?

Yes. Here's how to make them in an oven.

I love these easy "Fried Oreos" so much, I want everyone to be able to make them! If you don't have an air fryer, here's how to bake them in a conventional oven.

Baked fried Oreos on sheet pan
    • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
    • Follow the steps above (and in recipe below) until just before placing in the air fryer
    • Place the crescent roll-wrapped cookies on a parchment paper or foil-lined  baking sheet. If using foil, coat it lightly with cooking spray. You can also place them directly on a lightly greased baking sheet.
    • Bake for 7 or 8 minutes or just until golden brown.
    • Follow air fryer directions after this step.

Save the cookie milk you dunked your cookies in to make these babies! I guarantee you will agree with me that they are "Milk Mustache-worthy".
