Equipment

Ingredients

  • 3 slices thick cut bacon
  • 3 tablespoons light brown sugar

Instructions

  • For easier cleanup, line the bottom of the air fryer under the rack with foil or parchment paper liners.
  • I have a Ninja4 quart basket-style air fryer so I cut my bacon pieces in half to fit better. It's not necessary if you have an oven-style air fryer.
Place them on the air fryer rack, touching but not overlapping.
  • Sprinkle half the brown sugar on the top side of the bacon and gently press down with fingertips.
  • Cook the bacon for 4 to 5 minutes on 350 degrees or just until the outside edges start to get browned and crisp.
  • Carefully remove the basket and place on a heat-proof surface like a cutting board or silicone trivet.
  • Quickly turn the pieces of bacon over. Sprinkle the remaining half of the brown sugar on the other sides of the bacon.
  • Cook the bacon an additional 3 to 4 minutes, checking after each minute, just until the brown sugar is melted and the bacon edges are browned.
  • IMMEDIATELY remove bacon from the air fryer with nonstick tongs to a cooling rack or parchment paper. Do not place the hot candied bacon on paper towels as you would normally do with bacon. Candied Bacon will stick to paper towels.

Notes

Large amounts of candied bacon can be made in the oven on cooling racks inside of rimmed baking sheets. Here's my recipe for The Best Easy Candied Bacon.
Be sure to let the candied bacon completely cool. It is HOT and may stick to your teeth until it is cool.
Thick-cut bacon works best in the air fryer. Thinner bacon tends to move around because of the convection fan blowing.
